The really interesting part: "The total prize money for the Judo competitions is $200,000 and the International Judo Federation (IJF) has confirmed that the Abu Dhabi Judo Grand Prix 2009 is a major source of acquiring points in its ranking of IJF-sanctioned wrestlers."

This is indeed a large sum of money which has drawn the attention of the media. Mohammad Jasem, media manager of the event, when interviewed by Satya Narayan, Senior Reporter at Gulf News, regarding points on the IJF World Ranking List, spoke in Arabic and used the term fighter which was translated to English as wrestler. This is not surprising when one considers that the national association is officially called the UAE Wrestling and Judo Association. It is unlikely that the vast majority of the media will ever be completely correct when reporting on judo, a situation common not only in sports reporting! dry.gif

Just to clarify a point made by judomarshall. There is no -55kg category. This is simply the minimum weight that will be allowed for the -60kg category.

Nice! $200,000 grand prize money. People will be fighting hard for this, what does 2nd, and third place get you? dry.gif

Any of the American Women attending this? Only two would be able to compete at this level, we know who they are.

Says "55-60 kgs", which to me means -60kg (under 60kg).

Please read closely... The $200,000 is the "total prize money" and not a grand prize.

Does anyone know the breakdown of prize monies?

That means total across all weight divisions and 1st - 5k, 2nd - 3k, 3rd - 1k
