JudoForum Guidelines

The essence of the JudoForum is to provide for the free exchange of ideas related to judo, and the expression of a variety of perspectives from around the world. The JudoForum is intended to educate members and non-members alike, serve as a knowledge-base resource for students of judo, and stimulate additional study and thought about the various aspects of judo. Discussion of controversial topics or viewpoints is encouraged, but recognizing that this may lead to reactions that interfere with the goals of the JudoForum, member participation, or the educational process a few rules are necessary to insure the health of our community.

Members are expected to conduct themselves as adults and judoka. That means showing courtesy and respect to other members and following these guidelines at all times. Please extend a welcoming hand to new members -- they may not be familiar with judo or how the forum operates. Enjoy your participation in the JudoForum, but please help everyone else to enjoy their own participation as well.

Constructive posting

* Please keep all your posts as constructive and respectful as possible.
* Pointless posts, off-topic posts, duplicate posts, or topics that make no sense are considered a waste of space and may be deleted based on the sole judgement of the moderator.
* There will be no use of profanity. Please keep foul language out of the Forum. Repeated violations will be considered a violation of the rules.
* Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other topics and see where your topic should go. If your topic is placed in the wrong forum, it may be moved or deleted at the discretion of a moderator.
* Spam is not permitted. Excessive advertising or promotion of products or sites may be considered spam. Repeated posting of messages or unnecessary bumping of topics is considered spam.
* Linking to pictures and videos are allowed as long as they are not explicit or offensive in the judgment of the moderator team. To save space on this server, please link the images or videos rather than uploading if possible.
* Pornography, warez, copyrighted material, or any other illegal transactions may NOT be linked in any shape or form.
* Objectionable images, videos, text, or links will be deleted and the poster will be warned. This includes anything with gratuitous violence, that is sexually explicit, or is hateful.
* Users may not argue a moderator's decision publicly. Any and all complaints directed at a moderator or concerning the operation of the JudoForum must first address the moderator in question via PM or email. If the problem can not be resolved, then the moderator and user must send their positions privately to the forum admin. The forum admin will make all final decisions. The public discussion forums are not to be used to debate or complain about the administration of the Forum or decisions of the administrators.

Personal Attacks

* Name calling is not permitted. You can think an idea is stupid and say, "I think that idea is stupid because..." and then go on and explain WHY. But, don't resort to saying, "You are so stupid for thinking that."
* Hurling insults about a person, person's family, life, etc. is not permitted. There is absolutely no need to drag that stuff into the JudoForum.
* There will be no racial slurs, hateful speech, or inflammatory language used in any message whether in PM, email, or public post.
* Challenges to fights and matches are not appropriate. Threats are a serious violation that will not be tolerated whether in PM, email, or public post.
* There will be no personal attacks or posts meant to offend, insult, or hurt any member or people like instructors, athletes, or officials, especially in a manner which is offensive or inflammatory.
* Do not try and PROVOKE a reaction from others with comments that are close to the edge of the rules, intentionally provocative, dishonest, or disparaging. This is considered trolling and such posts may be deleted. In return, do not respond to flame baiting or trolling. If you participate in either side of this you are contributing to the problem and you can expect the consequences which will, at a minimum, include deleting posts.

Sanctions for Violations

Those who violate these Forum Guidelines or contribute to an unfriendly atmosphere will be dealt with in the following manner:

* First Warning: your posts will be deleted and future posts may need to be approved before being visible.
* Second Warning: you will be suspended for at least a 24 hour timeout and future posts may need to be approved in advance.
* Third Warning: you will be suspended for at least 1 week and future posts will need to be approved in advance.
* Final Action (Hansoku-make): If you continue to break these rules after repeated warnings and timeouts or if your violation is serious enough to warrant it, you will be given a permanent ban and will not be welcome.

In general these warnings are given out in order, but exceptions can be made. Serious infractions will receive immediate escalation to higher levels of penalties. Any individual who is not cooperative with moderators will also receive another higher level warning. In addition, other appropriate actions can be taken to restrict posting to certain forums, remove privileges like PM's, uploads, downloads, require advance screening of messages, etc. Moderators have discretion to remove warnings if a member has proven to be cooperative and has not violated the rules for a long time. Otherwise, warnings are cumulative and are not limited to a specific time period.

Moderators and administrators take a team approach in dealing with people who post negatively. Moderators of each forum have access to warnings and deleted posts from other forums. The warning system is used consistently for all of JudoForum.com.

What you can do to help

Posted Image If there is a post or thread that is in violation of our guidelines then please contact a moderator either via PM or the 'report post to moderator' feature.

Please do not respond publicly to the member -- a moderator will do what is required upon contact. Do not quote an objectionable message and then respond to it. This only bumps the message up, makes it more visible, encourages further discussion of it, and makes it more difficult for moderators to clean it up.

Do Not Feed the Troll (DNFT).

Other Rules and Fine Print

Signatures may contain images, but may be limited in size. If your signature is larger than the allotted size deemed acceptable by staff, you will be requested by a moderator to resize or change your image. Please also try and keep text signatures under 5 lines. Failing to comply with a moderator's request to fix your signature will result in the removal of your signature.

Pictures in your profile should be kept to a minimum file size.

Topics are closed, pruned, merged, and moved regularly to reduce page clutter. If you have a question about where your topic went, please PM a Moderator or Administrator before starting a new topic asking where it went, or posting a duplicate of the original topic. We will be happy to provide you with a link to the new location, or a reason why it was locked and/or removed.

Any impersonation of another member, in any mode of communication, is strictly prohibited and will result in a banning. Creating multiple identities for the purpose of disrupting the Forum or avoiding accountability is prohibited.

JudoForum.com and its moderators are not responsible for any messages posted. We do not vouch for or warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any message, and are not responsible for the contents of any message.

The messages express the views of the author of the message, not necessarily the views of this Judo Forum. Any user who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to contact the moderator immediately. We have the ability to remove objectionable messages and we will make every effort to do so, within a reasonable time frame, if we determine that removal is necessary.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this Judo Forum to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, intentionally inaccurate, abusive, offensive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, or violative of any law. You agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you.

JudoForum.com reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to reject, refuse to post or remove any posting, or to restrict, suspend, or terminate your access to all or any part of the Forum at any time, for any reason, with or without prior notice, and without liability. Posts may be deleted or kept for any reasons the Forum administrators or moderators deem reasonable. All posts become the property of the JudoForum.

We want this to be a welcoming place for all ages. Please enjoy your participation in the Judo Forum.
