I was awarded my blue belt last night. I've been having so much fun learning judo and competing that it didn't even occur to me that I would be graded by Sensei. No more shallow end at shiai.... blue-brown-black baby! What meant the most was him saying to me after class that it takes a lot of guts to step onto the mat and fight guys so much younger than me. There is nothing like the fraternity of a good club. Makes life worth living.

I recently got my green and as most kyu competitions are green and below i'm still ok but yeah once you pull on that blue belt you're gonna be up against the serious guys. Good luck though and congrats

Congratulations and well done. I got my blue belt just before last Christmas and I cant believe the difference in my judo now as opposed to this time last year. Chalk & cheese. I think green belt is where a lot of consolidation takes place, both in technique and in shiai.
Keep training hard.

Thanks for the kind wishes! When I was training karate I found blue belt an awkward rank.
Same for judo. Not good enough to be good, but not bad enough to be bad.
Sort of an in-between stage between green and brown, between knowing just enough basic techniques but not training for shodan.
This next while is going to be fun and hard.

Congratulations.
If I am doing "win," sloppy and sissy is fine; if I am doing Judo, beautiful is my rule and goal. Judo is far more important and rewarding than "win."

"What you are as a person is far more important than what you are as a basketball [Judo] player." --John Wooden 1910-2010

"You should first try to negotiate nicely but you can be strong after there's resistance, and know, just like in judo, when to catch them." --Rusty Kanokogi, 2008, on negotiating.

Blue belts are when you start taking a player seriously. Well done on your achievement.
