A team of 12 University Judo Players are coming to Tweed Heads in February for a training seminar and a Comp. Accompanied by 6 high ranking Officials who will deliver the seminars on refering and Kata.

Competition day sunday 26th feb
Seminar day saturday 25th feb
Training evenings 2 venues mon 27th & 28th feb
Train with Kinki University competition team.

I'm looking forward to this one, the contest will be held under normal Judo rules so leg grabs and all sorts of things you find in Judo books are allowed.

Additionally anyone who can Ippon me gets a bottle of wine at the after comp dinner.

Any suggestions on contemporary counters against Japanese players?

I usually go for pick ups as my main entry but have had issues with these types of guys using drop seoi.

If people from here are going let me know and I'll say hi.

Cheers

Entry into leg grab/pick ups; Which ever sleeve grip, say your left hand grips his right sleeve. Grip thumbs down, lift elbow up and rotate elbow (rest chin on the back of left hand) clockwise under his right arm pit. You should be well into a te guruma position or have his back for ura nage.

Just my rookie suggestion.

Cool stuff, I like the entry into pick up.

I matched guys like this years ago and they were all seoi nage and mostly seoi otoshi, wondering if the Japanese theme has changed?

one is a MASSIVE okinawan named yamashiro and the other is a -73 named ishikawa.
both very good and at a nationally competitive level.

they are a darn good team. at the most recent all japan team tournament, they made it to the round of 16 and lost to tsukuba, which was the number 1 seeded team going into the tournament. sounds like its going to be a fun event.

Some good news on this, the Australian National team is apparently competing also.

Should be a good event, nothing like facing skilled guys to test myself.

I'll post video.

Cheers

Nup, maybe they invited everyone except you, just kidding, only going off what I read on Facebook, I'll check and get back to you. I thought you'd be there, was hoping to catch up.

But given the issue of overseas competition etc this is a great opportunity to get some overseas competition in Australia.

Cheers
