Jimy Hettes won his UFC debut with a rear naked choke in his ufc debut. Go on line and check the fight out. Showed some great Judo in the Fight. Jimy is a great guy with a ton of potential. He loves Judo and is very very good at it. Jimy used to post here but I think he stopped as he basically lives in the gym now and trains all day.

Good close fight...right up until those hip throws. :hap:

Even threw in a plug for judo (and wrestling) in the post-fight interview. :manoyes:

All you have to do is Google "hettes caceres video". This goes for pretty much any MMA match.

What an impressive and active guard.. I haven't seen a guard like that since Nick Diaz fought in the UFC years ago... the fight was awesome, the athletes were incredible, the finish was great! :manoyes:

I could tell this guy just had so much better balance than ceceres, This guy was looking to finish the whole fight, I cant wait to see his upcoming fights finally we get a worthy young judoka not some early 30's worn out guy from years of competition. Does anyone know where he trains at?

Good fight-exactly why I like the lighter weights. They never quit. Nice harai. He's got loads of potential.

It's nice to see someone "doing" judo in MMA after Karo.

I still don't understand why fighter's don't use it more often...
It isn't the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog that counts

I don't understand either. I was disappointed that Akiyama has only done a few things in his fight. In his debut against Alan Belcher, he seemed to be trying to prove that he was a tough guy and, could stand and, bang. That mentality is more of let's put on a show for the fans and, owners and, they want to punching.

One thing I noticed is that Hettes always landed on Phan after he threw, or tripped him. Compare that to Dong Hyun Kim, who performed a beautiful Harai Goshi, but nearly lost the dominate position. He was said to have been a 4th degree level player in Judo, but spent his time trying to stand and, strike.

What does it say about the top East Asian Judokas, that they cannot use their superb skills to dominate their opponents, but a Brown belt can? Hettes had the fight of the night for me. Great skill shown in both throwing, tripping and, accurate punching.
