Dear Friends in Judo:

Gracie NEPA Judo is proud to announce that the first EVER Freestyle Judo Tournament on the East Coast, The Electric City Freestyle Judo Championships, will be held Saturday, July 23rd, 2011 at Marywood University in Scranton PA. For those of you who may not be familiar with Freestyle Judo, It was developed in 2008 by former US National coach Steve Scott and is governed by The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU).

Freestyle Judo is a "Hybrid"sport which seamlessly blends together classical elements of Judo such as advanced time in newaza, "the Hard ippon" (no rolling ippons) and the ability to perform leg picks and pickups with more modern elements that today's grappler would be familiar with Such as the inclusion of gi and no gi divisions, a numerical points scoring system, and the ability to win by Major decision.(for a more complete set of freestyle judo rules and scoring please feel free to visit http://www.freestyle...rg/contact.html as well as http://www.freestyle...g/REFEREES.html

It is important to note, that is NOT the goal of freestyle Judo to replace or compete with IJF or Traditional Kodokan Judo in anyway but rather to supplement it so that the best and most talented grapplers in all disciplines are able to crosstrain with and compete against each other and further deepen the talent pool of Judo in the United States today.

If you have any questions regarding the event or freestyle judo itself please Do not hesitate to contact Myself or Tom McGuire at the contact information listed in the Entry Packet.

We hope that all of you are able to join us and will help to spread the word as we bring Freestyle Judo to the northeast in this Fun, extremely challenging, and historic event

Yours in Judo,

Matt Marcinek

I'll be there. Does having a USJA/USJF card affect pricing?

Since the tournament is Sanctioned through The AAU, all competitors need to be registered for members with The AAU. Fortunately, a one year membership with the AAU is significantly cheaper than USA Judo, USJA or USJF a one year adult membership is currently $27 while a child membership is currently $14 we have also taken into consideration the cost of an additional membership by making the entry fee as affordable as we possibly could:

$30 before July 1st, 2011
$40 after July 1st 2011
$10 additional division

If you have any questions please feel free to email me Marcinek66kg@gmail.com If your on Facebook, you can also search Electric city Freestyle judo championships and "like" our page

Thank you for supporting our event

See you there!
