I saw a college guy teaching a Jr. High school kid this same throw yesterday at my dojo. It has the appearance of starting off as Osoto or Seoi nage depending on uke's reaction and the arm wrap comes second so it looks legal to me,here in Japan morote gari and kuchiki taoishi, etc. are still legal anyway.

First, the video is - even when played full screen - not so clear so that I can distinguish clearly what the initial attack was. Looks like a normal seoi nage, and then continuation to the leg attack. In that case it can be legal. Very smart application of the new rules. <_<

The 'invisible' 3th ref on the chair could see better what happened than the real referee on the tatami btw. We see the video-angle, but the ref could only see the backs. Anyway, he didn't give hansokumake...

Almost reminds me of soto muso as described in syd hoare's a-z of judo. Albeit done as a leg grab off of a drop something or other.

Still, clearly not an actual attempt at a throw and just wanted into newaza by the look of it.

I asked it to one of the referees here and he said it is NOT valid. About the video, notice that it was Abu Dhabi 2009 so before the last rule change, this *might* be the difference. But I would be happy to hear a more "official" statement.

Looks like valid to me. This one is an exception to the rule. He tries some seionage then grabs the leg.
