Hi.
I am a rather tall judoka, and have recently been busing my knee rather badly when finishing throws. Because of this I have decided to start using knee pads. I have tried a few different volleyball kneepads, but most don't fit, and those that do become shin pads after a few throws. I was thinking of moving to wrestling knee pads. Does anyone have similar experience, and perhaps some recommendations?
I am looking for knee pads that appear to have good amounts of padding, go high up and low down the leg (hoping this prevents movement), and are rather cool. Poking around the internet I came across the Brute Torq, but I am up to any suggestions. Thank you very much.

you say that you are having a problem bruising your knees as you finish your throws. While kneepads are a good stop gap measure, the true fix is to fix the throw. What are you doing to bump your knees the way you're doing it? Are you doing drop throws? If so, there are ways of accomplishing this throw without hitting your knees. Are you losing your balance and falling to a knee? Then you really need to work on your balance. Talk with your sensei and figure out what's going wrong so you can FIX it.
In the interim, I use Asics wrestling pads. The neoprene helps keep the joints nice and warm, and they stay nicely in place.
Remember, fix the problem - you shouldn't be bruising your knees like that, no matter how tall you are.

im with ya igman, im tall as well, i have to say to stacey that i am 5o/50 with your reply, yes perfecting the throw can and will help, however someone like me( and igman if he is in the same situation) has had knee problems for a long time, mine occured when i began t grow very fast, and bc i grew faster than most i began to have knee problems which doctors say have created air pockets, which makes my knees sound like vlcro ripping every time i squat down, and this makes my knees a little mor suceptable to injury, although i have been carefull enough not to injur them, however there are many throws that i want to do but cant seem to do them bc im afraid i will injur my knees , i use compression pads for my knees and they work out well, but they are not padded so i cant focus on others throws as i know i should, i agree with the other comments igman, brutes look like good knee pads and i plan to order some myelf.

I have a pair of McDavid Hexpads.
You can wear them as knee, forearm or shin pads.
They also do the 'neoprene' thing and are very comfortable and the hexpad technology moves with you.... very un-noticable.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I am trying to work on less knee impact on my throws, but it still is not perfect, and regardless, I've been using some old volleyball kneepads this week and it has been helping. I ended up ordering a pair of the Torqs, I will post a review once I have used them.
