I think that this will be something of interest to everyone on the List.
Late last week, Gary Goltz was asked to film an episode the on line series from Gatorade called Going For The Gold.

In essence, the series is about 16 amateur and unknown athletes from various sports and their quest for perfection and dominance in their respective sports.

The featured Judo athlete's name is Advent Monyatiswa. I am not certain, but I had heard that he trained with Rich Porro, but that is just hearsay at this point.

It's a great on line series that I think you would all enjoy watching. I think they are up to episode 6 on line and the Shiai that Gary helped film is not yet on.

I don't get the show. What's the point of making athletes from different sports compete among each other? Of course some are going to be able to jump higher or better upper strength. The backing they give the athletes get sounds great, but I just don't get it.

Not sure I do either but Advent is certainly holding his own. He's a great judoka!

When they where choosing the top 8, they questioned Advents ability to be successful based on his looks. Who the hell cares if he looks like he is the kind of kid that you could easily toss around, he obviously isn't an easy person to toss around or he wouldn't be on the show. I have been tossed around and physically dominated by plenty of people smaller and scrawnier than me, thats one of the great things about martial arts.

The more air time for judo the better! I hope that Advent makes it all the way and I wish him luck!

i know advent well, he is a good friend and training partner. yes, what you said was correct advent did train with Richard Porro in Houston, TX, which is were i first met advent. I trained with him 2 to 3 times a week all the up until my sankyu..which is about the time he left for L.A. I got to catch up with him in july when he meet me up in N.C. for a usja camp. at any rate advent is a really good friend and a good person and i can say nothing but good things about him.

I was really confused by this video, he spends most of his non-talking time doing martial arts that aren't Judo, stick twirling, hitting a kung fu wooden dummy type thing and punching a bag. Then a bit of throwing someone whilst not wearing a gi and seeming to be shown some odd non Judo like techniques by an old asian looking man. Very strange segment. I assume its all down to the programme editors messing around with stuff.

The other two were great though. Shame that he didn't manage to get past the first round though.
