Alvin Miyatake was my first sensei in Hawaii. He was, and I'm sure he still is, a great coach, teacher, and sensei. I've seen some bad things written as to possibly why he got punished like this, but I want to know if anyone actually knows why?

(the link I initially posted was bad.)

Hi,
I can say with certainty that I know why people have said bad things about Al and why he has been punished the way he has. Al is a deviant. I know first hand because he abused me as a child. This happened in the mid eighties while he lived in Jamaica, Queens, NY. I was a member of his dojo for some time as a child and was routinely abused at the hand of Al. I got the courage to explain what was happening to me to my parents while he was away on a vacation. When he returned he called our house and my father let him know in no uncertain terms that his reign as my abuser was over. After some calls were made, Al must have decided it best to start new in HI. I only hope that he hasn't hurt anybody else. The only regret I have is not contacting the police right away. It was explained to me that I would have to testify. That I would have to explain what happened to me over and over again. I was to that I would have to do this while being in the same room as him. And that the people representing him would eventually try to make me look like a liar. I was only 11 at the time, but I do wish that I was braver.

I don't find it to be such an ugly story. I actually find it to be a enlightening story. These things did happen to me as a young child, but I am a well adjusted, productive, happy person. What he did was ugly. My story is one of redemption.

Miyatake unfortunatley abused more than Charles1. It took some time and tenacity by Rusty Kanokogi, but he has finally been expelled from judo in the US for life.

Thank goodness for Rusty Kanokogi. I have never heard of him before now, but he sounds like a hero to me.

Wow, she was more of a hero than I imagined! Kudos to Rusty! I am so happy that somebody ousted that pig.

I'm sorry to hear that, that happened to you. I will not defend someone that has committed those actions. There were a couple times when I almost felt like he was hitting on me or came very close to touching me inappropriatley. He never went further than, "coming close". I just ignored it. The one thing I will say for him is that he was a great coach. He taught and fought extremely well. It's just sad that he had to ruin that with what he did. Once again I'm sorry to hear about what happened.

P.S. just curious Charles but why do you list your home Dojo as the dojo that Al taught at in Hawaii? Also Do you practice Judo still?

Aaron, I created this profile some time ago, when I decided that I had to try to locate Al, and ensure that he was not hurting any other children. I had searched him out online and found where he was teaching. Charles is not my real name either. I used this to contact him, because he wouldn't reply to my other contact attempts under my real name. I recently searched for him again and found your recent question. I had to expose the truth. Unfortunately for him he is sick and not control himself. If you felt he was trying to touch you innappropriately, he probably was.

By the way, I have been looking into Dojo's in my new neighborhood and would love to get back into Jodo. It is such a great sport. And thank you very much for your kind words.

If you are still in NY I have heard of a lot of great Dojo's out there. You should look into it. Judo really is a great sport, and I have tons of fun.
