On July 24th, 2009, Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Champion Mark "Stan-the-Man" Staniszewski competed in a fight for charity in the "main event" at FC#4. Weighing in at just 236 lbs, he was matched against 296 lb undefeated MMA fighter Steve "Tsunami" Quinn. Staniszewski defeated Quinn by submission in 1 min. 11 sec. of the first round to capture the heavyweight belt. Also on the card was Mark's childhood friend Steve Maucere who fought to a draw against seasoned MMA fighter Andew Montanez. Proceeds from the event helped to benefit numerous martial arts based charities including: The Blind Judo Foundation, Jeff R. Lorio Memorial Fund, Rusty Kanokogi Endowment Fund, and several cancer related causes. The sold out event gained the attention of both Newsday and News 12, who hosted Staniszewski for an in depth interview on the evolution of MMA in New York.
On hand to support him were Joe Scarola (Gracie Barra), Rich Korfhage (Korfhage BJJ), John Lucas (Smithtown Judo), Joe Monahan (Maximum BJJ), Anthony Garcia (Garcia Muay Thai at Combat Fight Club), and Mike Arcuri (co-founder of Combat Fight Club). Mark's corner men were Pan American BJJ Champion Dereck Mangie and USA Judo National Finalist and World Team Alternate Steve Scaindra. Staniszewski is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Pan American double gold medalist and current World Masters Judo Medalist.
