Sorry if this is way late, but... Just seen Dr. Andre Watson, US Paralympic Team Member at the 2009 PA State Judo Championships; and it seems our friend was promoted to Shodan, near the end of last year.

Congratulations on Shodan, Dr. Andre Watson, US Paralympic Blind Judo Team Member... :glass)

What I heard is that his coach actually took his brown belt out of his bag and then when Andre complained that he couldn't find it, he said, well, I guess you will have to wear this one then! And gave him his black!

Come see Andre fight at nationals!!

Had the privilege of fighting Andre yesterday at the PA states and I gotta say that in all my years of wrestling, judo, bjj, and other sports he's got to be near the top in terms of the strongest and most athletic guys I've had to fight. His skills and ability are no joke, and I'm happy that he's not regularly in my weight class.

I read up on him a little bit through this site and Google and he's a very interesting guy....hope to see him around again soon, which I'm sure I will.
