I've recently begun reviewing Ju-no-kata. Being a child of the information age, my first stop was the internet.

Can anyone elaborate on the good, bad and ugly in the following Ju-no-kata performance? It came recommended to me

I'm especially interested to hear the critique on Hanon, Jonsey, CK etc

An excellent rendition of the ju no kata can be seen being performed by our very own Wdax sensei. I think Dax sensei has it posted here. I recommend his performnce as one of the best I have seen.

If, for some reason wdax doesn't want them available to everyone, I apologize and I'll remove them.

There is something very sad about this performance, taped in June of 2008. One month later, one of the performers passed away, barely 37 years old.

Without knowing it, you posted his last public kata performance. :sad(

Huh. According to the youtube video clip, the performers are

"Vincent Mottet (Tori) Thierry Genotte (Uke) ".

Perhaps CK has one of them mixed up with the late Mr Istat?

No Problem, but this is from the end of a training session and "work in progress" and now three month old. I know several things we can/must improve and already did since then (thanks to everybody from the forum who reviewed it and helped us!). I hope I can replace it next week using the same filename :hap:

I was going to jump right in and practice judging the kata (I'm only a C level judge in this kata) but instead I decided to read the thread (which I failed to do in the past).

This being the last live performance of one of the team members I have decided to refrain from critique as to not offend anyone or speak ill of the departed. Instead, I will offer you CK, Sensei's post from this year's World Championships as an excellent rendition of this kata that I think is one of the best I've seen in my limited experience.

Here is the link to the thread:
