I think I may just be able to make some good use of that at the present moment. Thanks for the thread Bob. :manoyes:

NP guys

FWIW

I have seen the entire gokyo illustrated by the same guy. There's actually a book of it at Borders here in Perth, but I've been too stingy to for out $30 for what is basically a technique encyclopedia (aimed at kids, no less: uke is usually a dog or a teddy bear!).

Maybe I should...I do like the illustration style...and it *does* cover the khabarelli...

Sorry to be a spoilsport, but the picture you bob_stra posted is copied form a book "Judo pour nous : 4, Nage-no-kata, forme des projections : ceinture noire" by Claude, Fradet, Paris, France, Judogi, 2002, 48p, ISBN 2702707599 or one of its translations to finnish, swedish, german, etc.

I agree that he is suberb illustrator. Therefore I hope that his works are not displayed to be copied for free, but bought as originals. AFAIK he actaually makes his living doing illustrations.

Thaks finarashi - it's good to know the title! Is there and english translation and if so - is it worth having? Or are only the illustration the stand out thing in this book?

I went out and bought that book I mentioned.

"Judo - from White/Yellow Belt to Brown Belt" by Sander / Deling
ISBN 1-84126-076-2

As you can see, the style is similar but not identical. Mea culpa

Less cute, but hopefully useful.

AFAIK there is no english translation (What engish to adopt a frnch book) but for liveliness and ease of reading these are superb books. So sorry english speaking friends you miss out a lot.

I think its's supposed to be 'grasp', intereting poem, though. ;wry)

1. You may never get to touch the Master, but you can tickle his creatures.
2. The innocence of the creatures is in inverse proportion to the immorality of the Master.

In addition to being both cool and accurate, it would also seem to immediately answer the question that pops up here from time to time..."Why learn the names of the throw in Japanese?"

I can't read French, but I can easily look at the name of the throw and follow the illustration.

Thanks Miss Kitty for posting.
