A standard calligraphy set (書法用具 SHOHŌ-YŌGU) is divided in: 1. 半紙 HANSHI: Calligraphy paper. 2. 下敷 SHITAJIKI: a black soft mat used as surface. 3. 文鎮 BUNCHIN: Metal stick to weight down the paper. 4. 筆 FUDE: Brush. Generally two types of brushes are used: a larger brush for writing the main characters and a small brush for writing the artist's name. 5. 硯 SUZURI: Heavy block container for the ink. 6. 筆置 FUDEOKI: Brush holder. 7. 墨 SUMI: Solid black ink. SUZURI's parts are: 8. 縁 FUCHI 9. 陸 / 揚 OKA or AGE 10. 波止 HATO 11. 海 UMI  Um conjunto de caligrafia padrão (書法用具 SHOHŌ-YŌGU) está dividido em: 1. 半紙 HANSHI: Papel para caligrafia. 2. 下敷 SHITAJIKI: Uma almofada preta usada como superfície. 3. 文鎮 BUNCHIN: Uma barra de metal usada como peso para prender o papel. 4. 筆 FUDE: Pincel. Geralmente dois tipos de pinceis são usados: um grande para escrever os caracteres principais e um pequeno para escrever o nome do artista. 5. 硯 SUZURI: Contentor para a tinta. 6. 筆置 FUDEOKI: Suporte para o pincel. 7. 墨 SUMI: Barra de tinta preta. As partes do SUZURI (contentor) são: 8. 縁 FUCHI 9. 陸 / 揚 OKA ou AGE 10. 波止 HATO 11. 海 UMI
